A game publisher is a company that publishes a game that they have either designed themselves or have had developed by a game developer. The SimCity series was first published by its creator Maxis, but once Maxis was acquired by Electronic Arts it began to get published by them. Nintendo has also published several Nintendo-based SimCity games including an NES version of SimCity, SimCity 2000, and SimCity 64 for Nintendo 64DD. Aspyr is the publisher for many SimCity games for the Macintosh.
